Lesson Summary
Students will fill out a job application, type
a cover letter, type a resume, learn how to dress for success in an interview,
practice interview questions, and participate in a mock interview.

This lesson plan uses 4 objectives.
Objective 1:

Problem Nature
Applying for a job is a relevant skill that is
applied in the real world. Students need to understand how to apply for a job,
prepare for an interview, and practice interviewing.
Problem Data
Notes on Using Data
Students generate the data. Students provide
their own information in typing documents that are personal in nature. Students
research how to dress and review types of interview questions that they will ask
when they interview another student.
Problem Statement
Students need to understand how to apply for a
job, a skill that provides them with the experience that will help them in
finding, applying, and interviewing for a job.
Data Manipulation Instructions
The learner uses computers at an intermediate
level.
Integration Strategies
The student integrates technology using Word
Processing software, PowerPoint, and the Internet to find a job, apply for a
job, dress for success, and prepare interview questions.
Organization Strategies
Students will develop organizational strategies
in applying for a job and understand the steps for a successful interview.
Elaboration Strategies
Students prepare documents correctly for
applying for a job. Students will interview each other for the job they applied
for in a mock interview.
Results Presentation
Students are peer reviewed by another students
in a mock interview. Students must dress and present themselves as they would in
the interview, as well as being an interviewer. Students get the experience of
both sides of the interviewing process.
Activities Before Using the Computer
1. Students will write a prediction statement on what they believe the title of the “Job Skills” means to them in a paragraph. (a paragraph includes five complete sentences)
2. Students will fill out a job application.
Strategies to develop students’
attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Students are able to integrate technology to
prepare documents that will affect them personally creating a motivation for
self-fulfillment and understanding the problem. The different activities and
mock interviews allows student to interact and participate as a whole class,
with lots of discussion. Students as a whole class compete against each other to
see which student in the end will end up with the job, creating a challenge for
them to be successful.

2. Students use Internet to search how to dress and create a PowerPoint.
3. Students use Internet to search for interview questions.
4. Students use Word to type interview questions and answer interview questions.
5. Students use Word to prepare interview questions as an interviewer.
6. Students use Word to prepare a follow-up interview letter.

Students will present themselves in a Mock
Interview.
Supporting Activities
Instructor supports students through the
process of applying and interviewing techniques. Students support each other
through group discussions and peer reviews.
